VOALA Glance

Since 1896 Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles has provided a diverse range of human services throughout the community.  We now serve more than 30,000 people annually ranging from prenatal to the elderly.

 

Some people can’t imagine doing what we do.  We can’t imagine not doing it.

Childrens' Services

4,000 nurtured throughout Greater Los Angeles
We offer educational, artistic and physical activities, child development, nutrition and parenting support to children and their families, placing an emphasis on early education, literacy, and emotional and physical health. The skills and confidence gained promote a stable home life and ensure a smooth transition into  kindergarten and beyond.   Head Start, Early Head Start, General Childcare, Caregiver Respite

 

Youth Programs

2,500 inspired at 40 sites

Family Services
1,200 strengthened at 2 sites/100’s of homes

Families are the backbone of a healthy and productive society.  Our continuum of family services comprises childcare, transitional and permanent housing, job training, employment referrals, literacy assistance, benefits advocacy and medical referrals, respite care, and assistance with college admissions. Child abuse prevention programs and prenatal assistance for parents-to-be are also available. Strengthening Families, Affordable Housing, Caregiver Respite

Girls & Women
2,000 empowered at 50 sites

We help our female clients confront negative societal messages and support them through research-based programs focusing on economic and media literacy, nutrition and sexual health, housing referrals and placement, food assistance, domestic violence education and counseling, mental health and disability services, job skills development, and instruction on child development. Housing
1,000's permanently sheltered at 14 sites

We currently provide 1,500 units of affordable permanent housing for individuals and families, and 460 units of emergency and transitional housing with an additional 250 units in development for veterans and their families.

 

 

Seniors' Services
1,500 served throughout L.A.

As more seniors come to us who are living on fixed incomes, with significant health problems, we are expanding our existing and developing new programs to meet their needs.  VOALA nourishes the lives of the elderly to help them maintain their dignity and independence and enjoy a more fulfilling life with affordable housing, warm meals, holiday events and support services.  Holiday Meals, Companion Pet Program, VS-65, Affordable Housing

Veterans' Services
1,500 served at 7 sites

Our programs assist veterans faced with challenges of homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse and crime. We offer transitional and permanent housing and referrals, job development and placement, physical/mental health referrals, substance abuse treatment, group therapies, anger management, life skills classes, transportation, benefits and legal advocacy, and mandatory savings plans.

Homelessness
14,000 served at 12 sites

Our specialized programs provide relief and support services to homeless individuals and families.  We provide basic needs, emergency shelter, employment-centered programs, transitional housing, weekly stipend, specialized training, basic computer skills, employment referrals, transportation services,  permanent housing placement,  and daily therapy groups. Skid Row Drop-In Center, VOALA Rotary House, HOPE, Job Training and Placement, SHAWL, 24 Hour Transportation

ReCOVERY & RE-ENTRY

7,000 served at 7 sites

Our substance abuse programs include assessment, treatment, case management, and individual and group therapies. Corrections programs focus on helping ex-offenders segue back into society as responsible members of the community.  We also provide warm meals, referrals for medical and psychiatric needs, benefits counseling, referrals to sober living arrangements, and vocational and education opportunities.
