Most Important Influence ... |

My father was the most important person in my life. He worked hard and was a good provider for our family. I remember that he got up at 4:30 a.m., had his breakfast and made his lunch to take to work. He rode the streetcar 80 blocks to work. He read the daily newspapers and could converse on almost all topics. In spite of his limited education, he was amazingly intelligent. He and his work group were paid based upon the completion of their work on each Pullman car. My father kept the records and would turn in the reports of their work to the Payroll Department. He would spread the work reports out so the workers could receive level payments each pay period. This was my first exposure to bookkeeping. My father always encouraged me to do my best and seemed proud of my accomplishments. I remember his last words to me before being overcome with cancer pain were: “Have you passed the CPA exam yet?” |
